Bridal prep in a hotel in New Orleans

Nicki and Igor’s wedding was a perfect “New Orleans Style” wedding. It had the history, the tradition, the perfect setting, and most of all it had the party. These guys are super fun and super in love, so this event was a total blast! Their ceremony took place in the French Quarter at one of my favorite courtyards, the Pharmacy Museum.

The Ceremony: Pharmacy Museum wedding

The Pharmacy Museum is one of New Orleans best-known historical attractions and is listed on the National Register of Historic places. It is used as a venue for special events (like Nicki and Igor’s wedding) but is also a museum that commemorates the work of Louis Dufilhos, who became the first licensed pharmacist in the United States in 1816. Today the Pharmacy Museum is one of New Orleans many attractions, and is a great place to hold events such as this one.

Nicki and Igor’s ceremony took place in the quaint courtyard behind the museum just after the sun went down. They exchanged vows and shared their first kiss under a twinkling canopy of lights. There’s no better way to exemplify a New Orleans wedding (especially if the wedding is in the French Quarter), than to have a raucous, loud, celebratory second line immediately following the ceremony. With parasols in hand and surrounded by a full brass band, Nicki and Igor led their guests through the French Quarter.

The Reception: The Chicory

Tourists and locals on the streets clapped and cheered for the newly weds as they paraded through downtown and ended at the site of their reception, The Chicory. Originally a coffee warehouse, The Chicory is also a historical landmark in New Orleans. Like I said before, this wedding was a true-blue New Orleans event. Needless to say, the reception was a total hit, with heart-felt toasts, sweet first-dances and an awesome party.

Thanks for such a wonderful time, Nicki and Igor! Cheers to you both!

Kristin & Warren – Republic wedding New Orleans

Republic New Orleans weddingKristin and Warren’s wedding was not missing a thing. From getting ready before the ceremony through to the end of the reception, this wedding had it all. Some of the highlights I’ll never forget are the pre-ceremony cigars that Warren and his entourage enjoyed, the girls riding in luxury in a stretch SUV, and the mini Crown Royal bottles that the groomsmen had handy to cheers Warren on his big day. The ceremony took place at the Peristyle in City Park, a beautiful choice of venue. The Peristyle is not only classy, but also a historical landmark in New Orleans, having been maintained in City Park since 1907. Golden light surrounded Kristin and Warren as they said their vows within the embrace of the Greek Columns.
After the ceremony, guests awaited the newly weds at Republic in downtown New Orleans. Republic has a hip feel to it, with all the edginess of a music venue, to the classiness and tastefulness of a chandelier clad ballroom. It was a perfect choice for this raucous bunch of people. Complete with everything from live music, toasts, singing and some insane dance moves, the reception was absolutely a hit.
The wedding party, along with the most adventurous of guests went through downtown and into the French Quarter in a second line accompanied by the Kinfolk Brass Band. This was not a meek second line. These guys were having a good old rowdy time celebrating.
Cheers to you, Kristin and Warren! You guys rock!

Melanie & Chris – New Orleans weddings

Melanie & Chris – New Orleans weddings

new orleans weddings
Melanie and Chris had an extravagant and gorgeous New Orleans wedding. The ceremony took place at the St Louis Cathedral, which is a spectacular place for a wedding ceremony. The church is the oldest Catholic cathedral to be in continual use in the country and overlooks one of New Orleans’ most notable landmarks, Jackson Square. The wedding party had a bit of fun arriving at the church on the wedding day, interacting with the characters found in the heart of the French Quarter. On the way to the ceremony I got to ride inside the limo with the guys, who had quite the time. Inside the St Louis Cathedral we all marveled at the grandeur of the embellished walls and enormous arched ceiling. The church is breathtakingly beautiful.
After the ceremony we all headed to the Riverview Room for the reception. The Riverview room is up high on the fourth floor of the Jackson Brewery Millhouse, and displays gorgeous views of the Mississippi river and the French Quarter through its floor to ceiling windows. It is a perfectly classy location for a reception, with mahogany walls and décor indicative of the early New Orleans style. After a perfect evening of dancing, food and drinks, Melanie and Chris departed through an aisle of sparklers and left in a horse drawn chariot. What a beautiful night.
Congratulations again, Melanie and Chris!

Chateau Lemoyne wedding – Mandy & Kevin

Chateau Lemoyne wedding – Mandy & Kevin

chateau-lemoyne-weddingMandy and Kevin came all the way from Canada to New Orleans for their wedding celebration. The guys, who had a really stylish look for the big day, had a great time getting ready. They wore fedoras and matching red Chuck Taylors. The ladies had equally as great of a time prepping for the ceremony, fine-tuning all of the details, from makeup to Mandy’s extravagant flowers, to her gorgeous blue shoes, which looked great alongside Kevin’s red sneakers. The ceremony took place at Chateau Lemoyne, which was a perfect venue choice. It was a personal and intimate ceremony, with only the closest of friends and family, who came all the way to New Orleans to be with Mandy and Kevin on their special day. The phrase “Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler!” was printed on their customized napkins; a cajun expression that means “let the good times roll!” These folks did not have a problem bringing that message home as the whole wedding took congratulatory shots together after the ceremony, right before embarking on a raucous New Orleans second line through the French Quarter. Parasols held high, Mandy and Kevin led the parade to the sound of hardy cheers and laughter. Following the second line, the reception took place at Oceana Grill. Like their ceremony, Mandy and Kevin’s sit-down reception dinner was just as special and intimate. Heartfelt toasts were given as stories about the couple were told around the table. It was truly a happy and special day.
Congrats, Mandy and Kevin! I wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Sarah & Daniel – Houmas house plantation wedding

Sarah & Daniel – Houmas house plantation wedding

Houmas house weddingSarah and Daniel’s wedding was a beautiful and magical event, to say the least. I liked working with this couple right off the bat because they are super interesting people. Photographing them was particularly fun because of their sense of fashion. For example, Sarah has an intricate sleeve of tattoos, purple hair, and her dress had little turquoise feathers nestled within it. Their easy-going personalities made the day all the better. They got ready in the cottages at Houmas House, a gorgeous Inn on the property of the plantation by the same name. While Sarah and her bridesmaids got ready with hair and makeup, Daniel and his family relaxed with a cocktail in preparation for the ceremony to come. Also at Houmas House Plantation, Sarah and Daniel’s ceremony was an idyllic outdoor affair. Daniel’s face as he watched Sarah come down the aisle was absolutely priceless. Without an enormous amount of guests distracting from the main attraction, their ceremony was poignant and special. After the ceremony we got some gorgeous portraits around the property of the plantation under the towering oak trees and vine-laden trellis.
Thank you so much, Sarah and Daniel, for a wonderful evening. I wish you both the best of luck!

Jennifer and Jonathan had a beautiful ceremony at the New Orleans City Park Peristyle .To support equal gender, two same sex couples, who were good friends of Jennifer and Jonathan, walked down the aisle together. After the ceremony the couple enjoyed a tasty home brewed beer made by the hands of Jennifer’s new brother-in-law! The reception was held at Sheraton in New Orleans and they cut open a colorful fun-fetti cake. Two custom and cool bobble heads rested on the top, giving the rainbow decorated cake a really fun look. The couple had a Navajo Wedding Vase to drink out of and it symbolized Jennifer’s childhood ties to the Navajo Community while growing up. To say the least, this wedding was awesome! The family and friends were a very fun crew and I was happy to photograph such a diverse wedding.
