New Hampshire Portrait session – New Orleans Photographers – Chelsey and Tom
Kathleen and Bret are a quintessential match for one another. He’s a Louisiana State Trooper and she’s a Homicide Detective. I photographed an Engagement Session for them and really got to see their personalities shine. One of the most interesting things about this couple is their engagement story. It is always so wonderful to get to hear about the intricate and sometimes arduous lengths that a person will go to in order to craft the perfect proposal. In this case, Bret really went out of his way to give Kathleen a proposal to top all proposals
Bret had Kathleen’s Mother ask her to go up in a small private plane to get photos of their family’s Florida property. The original plan was that Kathleen would go up in the plane with her Father, but on the day of the plane-ride, her Father had to back out because he was “sick.” Bret, who is terrified of small planes like this one, agreed to go with Kathleen at her Mother’s request. As they were up in the plane nearing the property, the pilot asked Kathleen if she recognized anything, at which time he redirected the plane down and to the left. When she looked down, she saw the words “MARRY ME” next to a huge heart written in gigantic letters on her parent’s front lawn. The best part of this whole story is that Kathleen was completely taken by surprise. Waiting in suspense, Bret said, “so will you?!?!?!” and of course she said yes, and then cried the whole rest of the way back down to land. Apparently it took 80 white tablecloths to spell out the words so large on the lawn. Their whole family greeted them with a celebration when they got back.
For this Engagement Session we got some classy shots indoors that simply communicate the romance between these two. From there we went to the great outdoors for inspiration and used the beautiful, unique landscape of Louisiana as a backdrop. Amongst towering oak trees with moss and vines, alongside the swampy marsh, these images have a “Louisiana” feel that is impossible to get anywhere else. In these portraits we also had a little fun representing Kathleen and Bret’s affiliation with the law. They posed holding their guns amidst a red and blue twilit landscape.
Their wedding will be held in November 2016 at the Southern Oaks Plantation.
Congrats on your engagement Kathleen and Bret! I’ll see you at the wedding!
Ashley and Greg are an adventurous pair. They like to travel and spend time together outside of their usual stomping ground, which is why they came from Alabama to New Orleans to have their portraits done. They dressed in their wedding attire for their portraits because the wedding is actually in Barbados!
For this couple, it’s safe to say that the heat is on, literally; last summer, on August 23, 2014, Greg proposed to Ashley on the hottest day of summer. Greg’s original plan was to propose to Ashley on a carriage ride through the Quarter, but the heat was so intense that the horses weren’t able to be out in the sun that day. Instead, he popped the question in Jackson Square, which is a quintessential romantic New Orleans spot.
These two have been mad about each other since Greg came in to Ashley’s clinic for Occupational Therapy eight years ago. The fact that they have such a substantial history came through in their photos for sure. They’re so comfortable and happy to be around each other. They’re not just a cute couple, they’re family.
Congrats Ashley and Greg! I wish you a long life of adventure and fun!
Grace and JB are such a classy couple. They were a little shy at first, but after working with them for just a short time their true personalities really began to shine. They came to New Orleans all the way from Detroit, so of course we had to hit all the best spots to showcase their engagement. We went all throughout the French Quarter, stopping by Jackson Square, and combing through all the quaint streets that are packed with history, quirkiness and also a little mystery. Engagement session in New Orleans are always so much fun!
After strolling through the quarter we traveled to City Park, one of New Orleans most beautiful and enormous parks. As we walked among the towering oak trees, through the twisting pathways and bridges, we stopped here and there to get some photos. It was easy to capture the chemistry between JB and Grace, as they are clearly so in love.
I got to hear about their engagement, which took place at the same church where they met. JB made a video for Grace, wherein he showcased their past and future together.
Congratulations to JB and Grace! I wish you the best of luck!
Alesha and Daniel are a true blue Louisiana couple. Well, Alesha is actually from Indiana, but she’s a total convert to the Louisiana way. These guys live in Shreveport, which is in Northwest Louisiana. They love sports (i.e. The Saints), fishing, cookouts with friends, quality time with family and best of all, they have a Great Dane named Dixie! Their engagement story is a perfect representation of them as a couple. Daniel surprised Alesha while they were on a fishing trip with two close friends. Daniel put glimmering candles in mason jars on the dock across the lake and had a bottle of chilled champagne waiting for the unknowing Alesha. She was caught completely by surprise and, obviously, she said yes!
For their engagement session, we went downtown in the French Quarter to different locations, and spent a lot of time by the river, which was fitting for them since they love fishing and got engaged by the water. To exemplify the connection between them, we decided to wait for the sun to go down just below the horizon in order to get some dramatic and romantic shots. I really enjoyed photographing this engagement session because they were such a fun and easy-going couple to work with.
Cheers to Alesha and Daniel! You guys are a perfect match!
Aleecia and Khiry are such a gem of a couple! When I first heard their engagement story I almost couldn’t believe how thoughtful and romantic it was. Khiry took Aleecia on a totally random and surprise trip out of town. When they decided they should “probably pull over and try and find a place to stay for the night” Khiry checked them into a quaint bed and breakfast and proposed to Aleecia surrounded by candles and roses. I don’t think anybody can top that! Whenever I hear a story like that I can’t help but think that they must be really, truly happy together.
Not only are these two exceptionally sweet together, they also really know how to have a good time together; they like taking it easy at home, watching baseball, traveling and having game nights.
On the day of their engagement session we had some unexpected rain, but it seemed like fate was on our side when the skies cleared just in time for our session! I was able to use the rainy atmosphere creatively, which brought a lot of character to these photos. Their reflection in the rain puddles makes for a unique look that tells a story about the day. We strolled through the French Quarter and utilized all of the character that the city of New Orleans has to offer.
Cheers to Aleecia and Khiry! You two are the best!
